Why Don't You .... ? Holiday gifting 2015

This series is dedicated to Diana Vreeland and how she came to the world’s attention followed by eternal admiration.  While the suggestions might not be as outrageous or imaginative, these articles will have one unified theme and that is the gift giving season of 2015. There will be ideas for holiday gift giving from around the world from brands you may or may not know which range from somewhat normal or expected to the outrageous.

Colleagues and resources from around the world have sent me their ideas of what would make a great gift for a friend, a dear one or even yourself. The selections cover everything from commissioned artwork to handbags to collectibles to fine jewelry to scent and even personal styling sessions for men and women. No matter what strikes your fancy, hopefully these suggestions will make for some fun reading. Feel free to pass them  onto friends for their enjoyment or gift giving possibilities. All of them accessible online, at brick and mortar establishments or by phone so shop on!

With the Festival of Lights (Chanukah) scarcely a week away and Christmas just around the corner, let the games begin and my question to you is “Why don’t you?”
·
Why don’t you shod your feet and wrap your wrist in the latest and greatest from Salvatore Ferragamo? Those kaleidoscopically colorful and smashing shoes come from their collaboration with young shoe designer Edgardo Osorio and the introduction of their new Signature timepiece. Make those toesies dance while you watch the minutes and hours of your days tick away  with exceptional beauty. Find the fantastical “scarpe e orologi” at www.ferragamo.com or at your local brick and mortar location.

·
Why don’t you wrap yourself in a piece of real Americana like a wool blanket/throw by Pendleton found at River Gallery in Narrowsburg NY? The shop is chock a block with wonderfulness and one of a kind treasures that will no doubt find their way to your domicile  or for gift giving. The River Gallery Home  at 8 Main Street Narrowsburg NY 12764  845-252-3238 or www.rivergalleryny.com

Why don’t you own or give the most sublime piece of fashion jewelry that will make you the center of attention anywhere you go. This treasure by Matthew Greer from across the pond and his collections are all made by hand using age old techniques and skills. Imagine the stares when wearing this scarf of maille and pearls not to mention the compliments. Shop the collection at www.greer.nl
·

Why don’t you give a key ring that will never be lost? Not only are they symbols of your birth sign but they are made of Nile crocodile in the most divine and lush colors. Of course, you might want something more substantial like a croco hobo or maybe a crock bracelet with signature hardware and all from SWOON. Tell Helena how you found her. Explore the possibilities at www.swoonluxe.com/product/crocodile-key-ring

·
Why don’t you fill your home or your bestie’s with scents from the masters of scent at MiN? Their candles are sublime and well the porcelain covered jars are keepsakes for a lifetime. Think of them as the wall to wall carpeting of scent, MiN fills all of your “scentsual” needs. Shop at 117 Crosby Street in NYC (212 206 6366) or at www.min.com/collections/holiday-guide
