Decades after
Vreeland’s "youthquake" we find that so many designers are in search of it again
but his time around it seems to be as elusive as the Holy Grail and proffers
itself as “me too” fashion at a premium price.
Take for instance Dries van Noten who has always been an
independent designer who focuses on fabrication, coloration and being a
designer’s designer. Sadly, this season he has eschewed all these qualities and
succumbed to trend. At this time in fashion it is greatly disappointing when a
designer of his stature feels it necessary to surrender to such gimmicks and
such generic designs.

Next you might wasn’t to consider the collaboration of Louis
Vuitton and Supreme, here is the stellar example of high/low and the mixture of
street level and top shelf or in more
common terms wine from a carton and vintage Krug .. Well in terms of price for
sure. Vuitton as a collection, if dissected, has some stellar pieces and even
with this marriage there are pieces that surely spike one’s imagination and
attention. Somehow skater boys and titans of industry don’t exactly create a
match made in heaven but amazingly there are some fashion worthy pieces to
consider. Despite the NikNik 70’srevival and the more than youthful casting,
there are some beautiful grown up clothes.

Then of course there is Yohji who remains true to himself
even if we consider that when he began he was all about black. Today he is a
master of subtle patterning in camouflage palette and his silhouette is of the
bigger is better variety. No question he is an acquired taste but one must
appreciate what he does and how he does it and for that alone he needs to be
applauded and recognized for it. Consistency and DNA
