Todd Snyder NYFW Fall 2019 menswear

In a rare moment, when it comes to reviewing a collection, I’m going to inject myself a bit more into this one and speak as if I was decades younger and still building a wardrobe. Yes, I will also speak in my usual honest tone to describe this collection as well.

I think one of the most important things that Snyder has shown us is that proportion plays a huge part in appeal. Case in point if the multi-color puffer coat which I would normally dismiss as fashion victim fodder but I just love it because it isn’t shown 4 sizes too big and resembling a Thanksgiving Day parade float. I’m not one for high water pants or anything with a logo but I consider those to be  styling flourishes at best and easily rectified.

I loved the black and white patterning, the pastels, the reefer thin laser cut leather coat, the camo top coat and it’s about time the colors weren’t maudlin or bland or as loud and absurd as an orchestra tuning up. Mr. Snyder has tuned in and tuned up! In total honesty, I will admit that I believe he is the one who should be replacing Raf to tweak Calvin in its next iteration.

I see this collection as modern young men’s clothing with clothes for all as well. The clothes offer a simple tasteful flair and a certain amount of dapper and slick while still holding onto the idea of traditional menswear and not clothes designed for shock and awe.

PS …  I’d even want pieces of it at my age without question and I wouldn’t feel like i was wearing clothes that were meant for men far younger than I!!!!!
