Nat King Cole and Barbra Streisand among others once crooned...
The falling leaves drift
by the window … The
autumn leaves of red and gold ...

And obviously Jean Paul Gaultier took it
upon himself to take the autumnal palette quite literally for this fall haute
couture collection 2016. Or you might say
extrapolate it all and say let’s go trekking through the forest in mid-October
in haute couture! Make no mistake that this is a man who, with all his
theatricality and humor, is still one of the premier designers of his
generation and this collection proves it hands down!

Forget the gimmicks, the models and the obviously
show stopping creations ... look at the freakin collection this man turned out.
There is no question, that antics aside, JPG knows his way around an atelier
better than so may who claim to be so much fabulous and of the moment yet
only produce hype. These are clothes that know no season and beckon a clientele
of savvy women who unquestionably get it... yes get it, as in no matter the cost
I gotta own it, wear it and hang it in my closet to covet.

So very few will understand or be able to
see the wood bark patterns, sometimes quite literally and sometimes not, then
the leaves and the unbelievable details that speak to the season. The low key
but perfectly rendered honey colored leather suit that screams of the JPG era
at Hermes, a broadtail/astrakhan motor cycle jacket and that exquisitely simple
but sublime black bomber over hunters plaid lined in sherbet green charmeuse. These
are clothes that need neither explanation, nor any distraction as these are the
clothes of couture at its finest moment. One must keep in mind these collections
are for the customer who buys directly from the designer and not thru any retail
channels.
