Well, I decided to write about 2 heritage brands that certainly have checkered pasts as well as founders who tipped the fashion scale of their respective eras ...one of them more than once.
click image to enlargeToday we are faced with the disgrace of design that was shown at Patou with clownish ridiculous and patently absurd pieces that look like rejected design school projects gone wrong not to mention so tone deaf to our times! I don’t even want to know who designed it or who would take credit for designing it!
click image to enlargeOn the other hand, we have the freshman outing of Nicolas Di Felice who demonstrated that he understands and respects this brand’s DNA and what made it a such a revelation at its birth. It is pared down, modern, simple, razor sharp and yet nothing to shout about by today’s standards but it is slick and almost geometric, for the most part, and speaks to the eponymous founder. Di Felice saw beyond the patent vinyl jacket!!!

I hate harping on this but at least these are clothes
than can be worn, albeit you do need a great body for most but that was the also
the case when Andre Courrèges founded his Maison. At this particular juncture
in time, it was the right thing to do, simple and understandable and yes, a few
mistakes but at least this designer took heed of what the brand stands for.

As for Patou, its last great moment appeared in the 80’s with the “pouf” and Christian Lacroix but look at it now... its beyond tone deaf, beyond clownish and sadly rather disgraceful to the founder, brand, current designer whose name I don’t even want o know and to Kering who really only wants to sell another bottle of JOY!
