Dior Fall 2022 women’s

After watching this seemingly endless parade of nothingness I have come to the conclusion that “she” is a misogynist, among so many other issues that she has when it comes to designing, and I use the term loosely, clothes for women. So, were they football player protection pads or maybe life preservers, and team compression socks, laced up and boned waist cinchers or laser cut waist cinchers that looked painful?  Do I need to ask why so many pieces looked as if they were listing to the left side, ill fitted or why is there a Levi jacket in a Dior collection of any kind? Or why so many pieces look as if they are the French version of Talbots?

I would say it’s a wet dream of a collection if there was anything sexy or even arousing about it but to think you paint some leaves on a trench add a cincher and that makes it Dior is an affront to the brand and using that same idea applied to so many other generic pieces. Where did that floral taffeta come from and why? I can’t even go into her shoe fetish with those teeny, sculpted kitten heels or Doc Martinish boots. I suppose the models were made up to echo the skin tones from those Renaissance paintings that lined the walls but instead they looked like cadavers on parade. While I’m on the subject, aside from that and the last few gowns which might have been more effective in ecru rather than a blinding white especially the last exit with the inner waist support strap showing!

Given the extraordinary number of pieces there were some that weren’t bad but hell, okay that’s not good enough here as they need to be stellar. Unquestionably there will be esoteric blather on the part of designer who will once again explain her inspirations for the collection and the double eyes on all surrounding art. It just boggles my mind that no one gives a crap about the heritage and glory that was once Christian Dior!

Dior couture spring 2022

Let’s call it 60 shades of bland and boring! My take is simply that this was supposed to be salable and covetable and yes it was salable, more so than her ready to wear, but there is more at stake here than ready to wear.

What was the message here? What is she trying to convey with endless white and shades of beige with occasional accents of grey and black? I saw Katherine Graham’s dress from Capote’s black and white ball offered in beige or off white, I saw that minimalism chez Dior equates to boring and yawn worthy, I saw Jackie Kennedy looks that are so out of step with world today and a designer who hasn’t a clue what she or the brand stand for!

Once again, the Signora’s idea of sexy is transparent and yet she makes it bland, then of course the styling with kitten/louis’ heels on young girls instead of women and a paucity of make up all piled onto some ridiculous notion that these clothes reflect the DNA of Maison Dior.

I couldn’t wait to read the review for her to explain in her esoteric and faux intellectual word salad about how and why we should view the relationship with primitive cave like paintings and the clothes that were shown ... other than the fact that her crusade for feminism has been abandoned and she is searching for any raison d’être!

Let’s just say there is absolutely nothing here to really speak of other than why bother to present 60 generic tired looks? Let me say the final exit of the model with a wedgie was a perfect ending!

DIOR MENS FALL 2022

Well... I by no means hated this collection since I actually found it refreshing in its closer to the body silhouettes and relaxed but not sloppy looks... let’s call is purposefully slouchy. I do think that this collection would have greatly benefitted from a more mature casting and “precise” styling.

I absolutely liked the contour zippers and the more severe shapes and even the femininization of many classic looks which made them what fashion shows are meant to be! I easily could have lived without the heavily embellished floral tops and Jones “ode to the lily of the valley” even though I get it. The asymmetrical pant is something that appeals to me even if it’s nothing new and been done before. The palette was soothing and allowed the clothes to ...get ready... speak for themselves; there was no need to explain what we saw. This was one of most commercial collections to have come along this season.

I salute Jones for only showing his puffers in signature Dior “caning” pattern and not channel quilted ones which have flooded the runways of almost all men’s show thus far. Jones even got his denim in there but instead of blue it was grey and not in the least bit offensive or out of place to the eye.

Simply said, this collection was a standout noteworthy collection even presented exactly as it was. There was a point of view with none of the gimmickry we have been exposed to in almost every other collection. This is when buyers show their mettle and dissect a collection to present to their clients either exactly as shown or by cherry picking pieces and reassembling the pieces to suit their needs.

DIOR pre fall 2022

Every season I am amazed at how this woman interprets what she finds in the Dior archive; the extrapolation of product vs. her words is inconceivable. Okay, so I get the uniform thing, so then explain to me where galoshes and louis heeled high tops come into play with Greek sandal wrappings!

We went from Olympians to waitresses to parochial school uniforms to bra tops and puffers. You read her inspirations and you look at the clothes and undoubtedly you shake your head and think WTF is she talking about!

Mediocre, repetitive and joyless clothes, at best, with a story that makes no sense at stratospheric prices...it’s an oxymoron!

So, an almost 70 look collection boiled down to maybe here and there are some wearable pieces but why would anyone need to buy them from Dior. I can’t even say it’s an H&M collection or a Zara as its basically boring and a nonsensical pile of basics from a storied house that was once known for originality, fantasy and glamour. Where is that .... not here!!

If   I really had to explain it, maybe I’d call it fetish wear... the school girl experience ala Jeffrey Epstein and certainly not the what I think of when I think of   the pillars of feminism in the form of Gloria Steinem and Betty Friedan.

... and so that concludes still one more episode of The Emperor’s New Clothes by Signora Chiuri!

PS...  now the logo tote looks like The Big Brown Bag from Bloomingdales!

Dior spring 2022

Never say never!! I didn’t hate it BUT I didn’t love it! The problem being is that I don’t understand where it came from in terms of what does it have to do with the genes of the brand? Aside from the fact that there is no reason to show an outfit in 5 color ways and how come the collection did a 180 and looks very 60s in colors and shapes? Unquestionably, this collection skews much younger than all her socio-political feminist statements of the past.

The colors were an amazingly refreshing change for her and by God, the models actually wore shoes, not boots or oxfords, even if many of shoes looked suspiciously like those from Valentino. Then let’s talk lengths which were certainly not jolie madame and more Carnaby Street and Biba as were many shapes. There were even a few pieces I can honestly say I liked but then again all of it took on a generic tone which seemed to alter the appeal tremendously.

Do we suppose she was told to lighten up on the political feminist manifestos of the past as I can’t imagine this collection was all her idea? I’d like to give her some credit but I really can’t since so much, if not all, of this collection could have been designed by anyone. It was nice to see the models well-groomed and again wearing real shoes and not Doc Martens but once you got past the suits, which there were far too many of, I kept waiting for Twiggy or Jean Shrimpton to appear; while on the subject of jeans, could she have found a stiffer denim?

I might also add that the clothes should been fitted far more precisely and that goes for the singer who gave lots of side boob which reminds me that suddenly the meatball discovered nude souffle which had never appeared before. In the end I can only really say I don’t get it and probably never will no matter what this woman   conjures in her head and how she interprets her inspirations.

Dior spring 2022 men's

All the kerfuffle in the men’s world about Kim and Virgil, Virgil and Kim about how greatly talented they are ...well... you be the judge and you decide if what they show befits their labels and exhibits any sort of talent other than turning out ridiculous, ludicrous, unwearable, wildly expensive clothes.

Yes, Kim did do some beautiful things at Vuitton but as for Virgil, in these politically correct times, well... you get the idea because this past collection is an embarrassment to the brand but as has been said over and over ... Dior sells scent and cosmetics and Vuitton sells handbags and wallets.

This Dior collection comes off as the logorama collection yet still comes off better than Vuitton which is totally cartoonish and DR Seuss, but Dior also has now stated that “the hip hop community is no longer dictated to by fashion, they’ve shifted the paradigm, claimed their rightful influence on the industry, and got behind the wheel.” So apparently that’s the Dior market and   same goes for Vuitton and think about the reality of him saying who the target audience is. Plus, according Kim, if one is logical the brand doesn’t need a designer just an entertainer who will direct the design rooms.

Wanna be sustainable and all that... don’t spend zillions on shows like this and fill your stores with clothes you’ll have to ship somewhere to burn.

Jimmy Jazz stores beware your competition is coming after you!

Perhaps when reality sets in and truth is actually spoken about collections like this   then maybe fashion will slowly work its way back into a business of buying and selling clothes and not staging circus performances.

Dior resort 2022

I’m embarrassed to admit that I quite literally nodded off somewhere around midway through the unbelievably extravagant of some of the most generic, mediocre, mind numbing and meaningless clothes, complete with clumsy draping that I’ve seen in one place at one time other than perchance in a Lerner Shops in 1975.

The millions that this must have cost should have been used to buy covid vaccinations for 3rd world countries as this could not have been more of a waste of money and time than anything in memory. The poorly produced film (BY DRONES) seems to distract you from the signature sheerness, school crossing guard vests, the leather harnesses and the tsunami of sneakered models walking as if in a funeral procession or off to a human sacrifice... it’s inconceivable that this is out in the world as Dior and yet the meatball believes these are clothes designed for now. I ask in what galaxy or which planet.

Apparently, someone told the genius that Dior also makes jewelry and sunglasses since after I’m not sure how many seasons we never saw a piece on the runway; no sense talking about the foot wear or the gym bags or the sudden interruption of street wear to mix with the supposed Grecian theme....  and yet not one crisscross laced Greek sandal seen.... but we have breastplates and warriors printed on dresses... rationales don’t cut it!

Aside from the wildly repetitive pieces, the clumsy draping of no particular beauty ... khaki, black, white and royal blue/metallic gold homeboy clothes do not a resort collection make. It is shameful that Monsieur Arnault has permitted this untalented clueless woman turn the brand that made him a megawatt star of the fashion business into a schlock pile ... Dior is now just a brand with no visible signature and very little credibility despite the fawners.

Insult to injury, even the presentation was not original... think Eiffel Tower and YSL and to end the show with the Bjork’s swan’s neck dress that made her a laughing stock of fashion and is just inexcusable on every level other than that Bjork must have been a trendsetter obviously since she wore it 20 years ago.
