Alexandre Vauthier haute couture fall 2020

So, here’s the deal... I tip my hat to Monsieur because he is fully aware that who knows where and if anyone will ever wear these clothes but as he says... he must dream, he must design!

He is unquestionably one of the warriors of fashion who will do what he must to survive in these trying times.

His clothes are an acquired taste, a favorite of red-carpet celebrities and performers and most of all to his devoted clientele. After all, these are not supermarket clothes but they are the clothes of fairy tale fashion and showing the amazing feats of the fabled ateliers of Paris.

He proves himself to be first and foremost a tailor and then he shines as a god of the sexiest dresses since the days of Emanuel Ungaro. This season he shines … quite literally with his gold bullion embroidery from Lesage and his mushroom pleated lame with horsehair curving hems and edges, it's hard not to think of 40s glamour with his use of plumage from Lemarie and one very obvious nod to Pierre Cardin.

These are the clothes that make you stand up and take  notice and I say BRAVO to  him for having them photographed in a way that might possibly be the only  places they are actually worn  but they are fabulously decadent, sexy  and for the most part over the top so why not be distracted from the ills of our times with couture that many dream of and fantasize about.

VERSACE fall 2020

With nearly 100 exits, I find myself at odds with what to write since there is really nothing to write about but I did seem to find this piece from one brave editor from one of our supposed fashion bibles which seems to sum it all up nicely:

Versace has had a banner season — nearly breaking the Internet with the last women’s runway show by sending out Jennifer Lopez in (almost) the same jungle-print gown she wore to the 2000 Grammys, then outfitting new-gen voluptuous beauty Lizzo as a Hollywood goddess for the Oscars earlier this month.

But on the runway Friday night, there were no star turns other than Donatella herself, projected Warholian-style in repeating portraits on the digital video screen spanning the 40-meter runway. She may still be the figurehead, but there’s no denying the house of Versace has changed under Capri Holdings: it’s less about charting new design territory, and more about repackaging greatest hits, with a few updates for the changing times. Having tackled age inclusivity (thank you, Nineties supermodels and J.Lo) in September, this season, it was on to gender. “Today’s generation does not care about gender…there’s no female or male,” the designer said during a preshow press conference of her decision to take her show coed. That was after she opened with a few choice words about the horrific rise in hate crimes around the world: “What happened in Germany a few days ago is almost the last drop, I mean, we need to act and to be fast and we cannot permit young people to think that going back to the past, to the horror of the past is a good thing.” You could feel the passion in her voice. Less so in the collection, which seemed to favor commerciality over conviction. Versace, like Miuccia Prada and Silvia Venturini Fendi this week, said she set out to explore power and sensuality. But this was not a deep dive into gender and sexuality so much as a surface skimming. This despite the fact that Gianni Versace was one of the first designers to come out in the Nineties, Donatella is a gay icon, Billy Porter and other pioneering celebs have been busting gender-fashion norms, and now more than ever, consumers seem to want brands to engage. It felt like a missed opportunity to say more.

This might be an object lesson of 'be careful what you wish for'…. At least the Versace clan is richer for it but poor Gianni is spinning!

Gucci fall 2020

Why is this man smiling…? That is the biggest question!

Here you have fashion, in the loosest sense of the word, which was designed, in the loosest sense of the word, under the influence!

These are the nerdy freaky girls you made fun of in grade school because of how shabbily they were dressed or because their style was so alien.

The clothes are pulled from the bottoms of the $1 bins at Goodwill and look as if they have picked over for years

The clown bus has now turned into a certified freak show and it’s just as repugnant except this is intentional and not God’s mistakes!

What saddens me the most is that there are consumers who drank the Kool Aid, a fashion media that has become like FOX news, and that Kering is clearly not the least bit interested in reclaiming the status and integrity that this heritage brand once claimed as its own.

I’m not even sure these clothes are Forever 21, H&M or Zara appropriate…. How utterly pathetic this display of supposed fashion has become.
