Here is my conundrum when it comes to Balmain and Olivier Rousteing.. I know he is madly creative, I know he is abundantly talented, I know he is more than a mere designer, I understand he is young yet quite adept beyond his years at his métier BUT what I really want to know is WHO IS WHISPERING IN HIS EAR?

All these brands want to be megabrands and in his case there is a reason why he will never be; if he stays this course he will never ever be more than some hyped up young designer with outrageously expensive and hard to wear clothes. The clothes come off as a collection geared to H&M or some intergalactic experience rather than aimed at those who can afford them or have the body to wear them. These are not anything other than costumes for the stage and in most cases photo ops on the red carpet, THAT is what’s holding this man back.. he has to rethink who he is and what he is and find a more commercial way to express himself or else it’s just clothes for editorial sake and for stylists to borrow.

The fact that he has been added to the haute couture calendar is almost laughable as one can almost imagine the “dragwear” he will conjure for that momentous occasion.

Someone needs to harness this talent and turn it into a brand and collection that will be respected for it craft and creativity and not only for its over the top unaffordable unwearable clothes that cater to an unknown unrealistic retail audience.
