Alexandre Vauthier haute couture fall 2018

Bravo monsieur!

This is quite a departure for the designer who usually only caters to the rock n roll girls as well as the model/celebrity set. This is the new and improved and considerably more refined version of one of the few designers who exudes sizzling hot in all of his collections.

As I have stated before Vauthier is a master tailor at heart but in this collection he definitely shows that he is a formidable and adept dressmaker as well.  One cannot mistake the nods to YSL and to Givenchy and far more so than the eponymous brands of those late designers.  There is a new chic, polish and sophistication present this season that brings the designer a much broader audience and to a much higher level on the couture scale. Blessedly he is not shy about color nor is he adverse to statement making or entrance making.

I’m duly impressed here and even more so excited to see this man grow in a way that is almost unexpected but most welcomed in a world of me too fashion. Loved the boaters, love the ribbon bowties which were both ran contrary to so many styles and yet looked so right. I must say I adored the buttoned up nunnish pieces as much as I loved those draped cowls and big bowed taffetas and the entrance makers; this is a chest beating statement of a skill set ... a variety of looks for a variety of clients

If I had to say one negative it would be that the boots, while being a sort of signature for him, seemed a bit weighty with many of the pieces and distracted from the beauty of the clothes.

How could I resist a beaded tiger striped onesie .. How BeyoncĂ© of him and how fabulous for anyone who has the balls to wear it!! ... And I’m sure it will be worn!

Tom Ford men’s fall 2018

WARNING! Get those depends ready boys and girls... and let the moaning and oohing and aaahing begin…. Fawners to the right and fashion victims to the left and gullible in the center!!

Let’s talk about those over exaggerated  breast plate 70s lapels... the knife crease skinny pants and the shark skin like shiny suits that, if I’m not mistaken Italo Zucchelli did that look for  Calvin Klein a few years ago. So my question is where’s the beef? It all looks so tired and if not for the flood of hype that surrounds this collection you might notice that the same jacket is done in different fabrics over and over and over... not to mention of course that there really aint much here that’s very distinctive other than the price tag and the brand. Some might even remember that they threw away suits and jackets with those dated lapels

Okay  I will  admit that the tiger/zebra print jackets looked mighty fab and the python puffer was amazing along with the python print shirt but alas not much happened in between novelty jackets and a couple of animal prints. Can we talk about  hard crease in skinny pants?

Never let it be said that Mr. Ford is not one of the savviest marketers around hence a finale of a gaggle of youthful pulchritude in underwear with the crotches hiked up to show off their goods. Need attention? Show crotch!  Check Instagram …. Those boys have huge followings despite what the reality is or even if there is “truth in advertising!” ….. Let’s call it orchestrated distraction!
