Gucci spring 2020 ‘

HUZZAH! The Gucci bubble has burst finally and what you’re left with is what I had always suspected and that is unappealing generic looking clothing that can only be Guccified with a logo or a label.

Gone are the floods of accessories and the over the top layering from Miss Habersham’s closet. I found the opening almost funny, if not prescient, with who knows how many versions of a strait jacket and then a cavalcade of who cares clothes on somewhat zombie like models.

So in the end, Gucci will go back to selling what it was meant to sell and that is shoes and bags cause there aint no reason to  buy this crap no matters whose label is on it. Century 21 must be ecstatic or possibly wildly disappointed as this won’t exactly attract any attention from anyone.

Dolce & Gabbana SPRING 2020

IT’S BEEN A VERY LONG TIME since I’ve attempted to offer my thoughts on one their collections but Spring 2020 spoke to me. This is a collection that is totally cohesive and yes of course over the top but in a very good way and what else would you expect from these designers...

There are shitloads of clothes to wear. Boatloads of great little black dresses and Donatellamamamia take a note … this is how you do a jungle fever tropical madness collection. I mean who cares if the noticeable influence of the YSL African collection (HC 66-67) is evident because their riff on the collection from over 40 years ago is so well done, so pitch perfect.

The opening salvo of safarienne and leopard is just as much  a nod to YSL as it is a signature to this brand and in a  season where costumes are the rule rather than the exception Dolce and Gabbana came across with clothes for those who dare to love fashion. No, none of it is earthshattering but all of it is pretty damned fabulous having abandoned Sicily this season and taken to the tropics.

I tip my hat to them on this one as they knew when to stop, meaning it wasn’t overly accessorized and one always has to keep in mind that their shows comprise 2 different collections which accounts for the flood of exits!

Giorgio Armani spring 2020

Some will say boring, some will say who cares and others like myself will almost swoon at a collection that is actually designed with a devoted customer in mind. It is not about one particular look or shape or silhouette, even though almost everything leans on the slim side. There is a variety of pant shapes, jacket shapes, lengths in every category and best of all this was a show that was superbly styled. Everything pitch perfect.

The unexpected color palette is so very Armani and there are the unexpected theatrical shapes coupled with new very feminine silhouettes and shapes that have never been seen before and yet it all feels “like home”. Yes, an editor’s pencil would certainly have been a help  but who cares… the clothes are superbly constructed and yes again they are actually designed without  a second thought to looking toward trend or other than being Armani signature looks.

Surprisingly there were some exquisite new dresses and blouses that were more girly than the usually androgynous pieces that Armani is prone to ... even some of belts were unexpected surprises as well as the exaggerated necklaces. these are ich lady  clothes and they look it!

So yeah, I’m a fan and I say it unapologetically and more as a fawning fan that doesn’t have to make up copy to avoid speaking about the clothes. This is fashion in it purest sense

Versace spring 2020

Okay let’s get this out of the way at the start .. What is that bust line that looks like the back of 2 heads... one on each  boob sort of like 2 Magritte paintings side by side? Lots of paper bag waists and the unfortunate print tailored and jersey pieces!

Yes, plenty of missteps here BUT la Signora has either come to here senses or had her meds adjusted since she got her sexy back. Yes. Some of it is too short, some of it is just too much and some of it just over worked BUT there is plenty here to actually wear if you are into this look.

You know the highly embellished pieces are red carpet styles or pure caprice that will probably never see the inside of any store other than a Versace store, maybe. Within the vast selection of black styles we can see that some thought might have been given to actually selling clothes; after all she just pocketed 2 billion and now she better show that it was worth it or else she might find herself kicked to the curb.

Far from perfect but head and shoulders better than her previous iterations on streetwear, the collection might signal another new beginning. What causes me to chuckle is that when she is either afraid or feeling insecure about the collection she drags out “the old warhorses” like J Lo and Amber Valetta to spark up the crowds and give the media something to talk about other than the clothes.
