Sies Marjan NYFW Fall 2019

I just referred to an ocean of unwearable clothes and lo and behold here we have the Indian Ocean of unwearable stuff. Wtf is this?

Rarely if ever have I seen fabric literally tortured into the making of a garment but holy shit does anyone stop to think what this stuff will look like on a hanger hanging in a store? Yes let the media fawn and laud, the backers take care of them, but let’s call it what it is … it’s like getting lost in the rag bin of a sample room and the kids making clothes for a school project

Satin which may be expensive but looks like a nickel a mile and dresses that could double as full slips and then all this twisting and turning and knotting and to what end…. Certainly not a couture garment.  Lak manages to cover 2 different collections in the first 2 exits a little Vetements, The Row and god only knows the words to describe what is shown here and intended for sale. Then out of the nowhere comes these rigid cowhide leather suits that look like they are made of glazed cardboard.

The palette is jolting at best to the point of glaring and all these tricky wrappings and drapings and effects that mean nothing because every season this designer is shopping for a new client. It’s inconceivable to me that anyone with any experience in this business can call this pile runway worthy!

Sies Marjan NYFW fall 2017

Now that any pretense of offering pretty clothes with hanger appeal has literally crashed and burned, we can look to this brand for some of the most unappealingly oddly assembled clothes that these eyes have recently seen other than as some school project …. Which in most cases would certainly have been better.

Okay, so the color palette looked like rainbow sherbet that you buy in a tub at the supermarket which can be appealing … for SPRING! Then there is this designer’s odd predilection for fabrics that have a luster and sheen to them... Think dollar a mile Halloween acetate satin and cheap crushed velvet. Apparently there is some sort of hallucinatory fantasy that these clothes are pretty and wearable which begs these questions… where exactly are you wearing any of this except for a coat or 2 and why do you choose to look as if you tore cheap sleazy satin sheets off the bed and draped them on you in a sort of sci-fi 21st century take of the drape scene in GWTW?

All of this actually doesn’t matter since the bottom line is that clothes have to sell. You can buy your hype, you can “buy” your way into a store and you can buy editors but what you can’t buy is sales… you need a woman or person who will actually lust and covet clothes….  I ask you. .. What do you suppose these limp rags will look like on a rail in any store and with that I rest my case.

One last thing pops to mind…. “What’s new pussycat” … NOTHING!

Sies Marjan ... spring 2017

If this is a “brand” that took the fashion world by storm (according to B of F) , well the first question is was it a typhoon or a hurricane and if it was classified as either… well now it’s been downgraded to barely a breeze. Talk about drunk on yourself from some poorly substantiated fluff piece.

This is a collection with absolutely no substance nor any reason. This is who cares in the extreme, not to mention been there, done that,  let’s move on . Yes, nice colors but where’s the beef here? It is just another pile of clothes with another label that means nothing other than a lot of self-congratulating , chest beating and some self-fulfilling prophecy.

Per chance this is a tsunami of design that has evaded my fashion senses. Per chance I wasn’t aware that charmeuse is the new day time fabric or that bare midriff tops are often worn by a majority of women over 35... Oh you know the ones who can afford to buy it if they so dared.  What I did find quite compelling is that much of it reminded me of strait jackets the way they wrap around and confine the body and according to Vogue.com these will be best sellers but my question is to who and where.

So, one more time the “relevance” of this collection must have escaped me! Maybe it is the 21st century version of Go Silk, or maybe Nancy Heller,  but not as good! ONE LAST THING… imagine the hanger appeal!
