New York has talent but my issue is that the talent is either misguided or used in ways to propel causes rather than for just presenting a seasonal designer collection. In reading the reviews of some designers, some more well-known than others, every conceivable cause and movement of the past couple of years and maybe even of a generation is raised in the show notes or reviews.
click image to enlargeAs I have often said, clothes don’t come with romance cards so the customer has no idea if a dress or a suit if a declaration of racism, sexuality, body shaming Black Lives Matter, citizenship or whatever supposed civil rights violations or persecutions are in the media of the day every day somewhere in the world.

What happened to clothes that were shown to buyers to entice their clientele to shop............ not because of what they stand for or protest. That size 18 girl on the runway in a see-through lace dress shames her because that dress is not really designed with her in mind.... if she chooses to wear it that’s her business but I want to know how many stores are buying above a size 12 or 14 and if they are, are those pieces hung on the same rail in the same department as size 0 to 12.

Fashion has gone off the rails and lost its way and its meaning since designers apparently aren’t designing to make sales but to send a message. Well, you know, write A FREAKIN LETTER, BUY A BILLBOARD, TAKE-OUT FULL-PAGE ADS OR ATTACH WHATEVER MANIFESTO YOU WANT TO EVERY GARMENT THAT WINDS UP IN STORE!

As little post postscript to my rant let me remind you that this pandemic is not over yet and life isn’t going to return to the way it was pre-pandemic so one must wonder where are these clothes being worn? Not all clients are entertainers or red-carpet walkers.

again... who is whispering in their ears?
