I could not think of a worse time to have to design a collection being that the future is so uncertain and overflowing with ifs and maybes and could be’s and should be’s. My heart goes out to all designers who are determined to weather the social, political, epidemiological and a litany of other issues we are all faced with.

It’s probably one of the few times when intelligence and logic enter the world of fashion in hopes of finding a balance that will satisfy the pent-up spending that has been growing exponentially over the last 6 months as well as sustain a brand that has suffered in that same time frame.

We all have read that online sales are explosive but somewhere in the back of our heads I have to believe we know the clothes that are being sold online are not the clothes that will be dining out at Grenouille when it reopens at 25% capacity and the same for every other fine dining establishment.

So, the question is what are these designers thinking when store traffic is almost a standstill and social gatherings of 20 don’t require ball gowns or formal attire…in essence where are these clothes being worn and what is the impetus to own them.

Please take note that I am not criticizing so much as thinking out loud and wondering if in fact there is a correct answer or a proper way to go about assembling a collection given these precarious times.
