I am not a dyed in the wool Dries fan but I sure as shit know when he is on fire and with this collection, he is a 3 alarmer!

Let it be known I am not a fan of greasy haired models and ghoulish makeup but to my credit I can block that out when I’m looking at FABULOUS clothes! Dries gives you a reason to own another puffer or trench and even riffs on that famous Charles James satin jacket more than once. As most of you know I am a big fan of animal prints and so come one come all they are all here and from retail reports women of all ages still find them irresistible.

There is soft, there is rigid, there are prints there is solid, there is color there is black. Dries delivers on all counts. The statement is bold and that goes for that incredible rhinestone torsade that immediately caught my attention when watching the film. This is a made in the shade collection for all Dries lovers and sure to attract new ones as well as these clothes have no age.

I’m not gonna pick it apart but as you can see the collection runs every gamut from a to z on every possible possibility. He is right on the money actually designing a collection at a time when gimmickry and bad fashion seem to be taking over and now here, he is proving that real fashion does exist by actually not giving into any trend or gimmick!

Then along comes a designer who designs with a collection that looks like a collection… imagine that!!

Unquestionably the runway is one that is rife with exquisite pieces rendered in lush and rich looking fabrications. This is not a collection for the faint of heart but it without a doubt a collection for those who truly understand there is a thing called fashion without billboards,  neon  signs,  endless intellectualizing about heinously ugly clothes, sound bytes and  all the bullshit that seems to permeate the business at this time in order to justify a lack of talent.

Dries is a fabric man which he certainly backs up in this collection but what he also fortifies is that there really are true creatives who design clothes reflecting their vision for their brand based on their instincts and not on some headline or speck of esoterica… you listening meatball?

The first viewing can be rather jolting but is upon dissection that you find the beauty and the the essence of both the brand and designer. The clothes speak for themselves, there is no further need to ramble on about them... if you understand the business and creative aspects of fashion then the images speak for themselves

I mean what could go wrong? Christian Lacroix and Dries collaborate and it is so over the top, so Eddie and Patsy, such an antidote to what’s going on in fashion … it’s like this international fashion adventure unfolding before your eyes.

I’m not a fan of the oversized or seemingly shapeless pieces but jeez Louise there are enough jackets and coats to please an army of Dries and Christian fans. The use of dots of and animal prints is decidedly Lacroix and under the deft hand of Dries this is what fashion should be ... it makes you smile, it makes you dream, it is aspiration and inspirational … it lights up the runway. A collection like this awes you in the most positive sense of the word.

I imagine that seeing in this showroom might possibly be even more overwhelming than seeing it on the runway. My take is that there are a jillion ways to put this all together and not lose any of its potency. It’s an amazing mix of ruffles and rigid tailoring that yields an almost hyper feminized way of seeing Dries

If  there is something negative to say  about it, and you know I always have something negative to say,  it would be the platform shoes which  I personally  find do nothing to enhance the beauty of the clothes!

I’ve made a conscious decision not to show the oopsies of which there are some but instead I want to show why and how Dries gets it and lives on! The colorations, the pattern mixes the tonality of the patterns and mixtures are exquisite.

This is a collection that may not be as you would wear it but I’d double dog bet there are more than one or two pieces that any seasoned fashion follower will covet and crave. Earlier I spoke to a colleague about clothes that are now being shown for Spring 2020 and the fact that they are not covetous ... just silly  absurd propositions to gain attention, fill racks  and populate runways in hopes of attention.

Dries runs the gamut from the severely tailored to the loose as a goose relaxed looks that simply work as fashion not as media hooks meant to shock …  in other words these are clothes to wear and keep as they are timeless yet timely.

The silhouette of the pants is primarily lean… not tight but slim and then he throws in the baggy variety, there is a navy trench coat type piece of outerwear that is simply spectacular. Of course, for me there’s plenty of leopard but the coloration is more muted, yet not dead and by doing so he creates compatibility to so many other patterns that it is mixed with.

PS …  the omissions are well somewhat out of character but who cares when there is so much here to sink your teeth into!
