Akris fall 2022

I will openly admit that I am an Akris fan and that Albert Kriemler delivers almost every season year after year and while the brand and designer may not get the hype of far fewer deserving brands, he remains at the top of his craft as a designer.

The collection is precise as always with special attention paid to clean lines, subtle details, appealing colorations and of course fabrication; Kriemler always has an inspiration but his inspirations are not justifications as much as actual jumping off points for all the aforementioned qualities that are part of an Akris collection...

This is not an influencer/Instagrammer collection as it doesn’t scream and it isn’t meant to attract the klieg light sort of attention of that are catnip for that audience. The dirty words of wearable, timeless, ageless and minimal come to mind as reasons why that generation will bypass the unrivaled quality and design prowess of Akris.

It doesn’t take a very trained eye to see the impeccable finishing nor the actual thought process that goes into a collection such as this.... yes, it actually makes sense in terms of presentation and design.

If you are looking for fluff and bells and whistles or design  gimmickry then there is nothing for you to see here!

Akris spring 2022

If you came looking for bra top, bare midriffs and sex for sale clothes, you might turn around and leave now as that is not what Albert Kriemler has delivered with this collection or any of his previous collections for that matter.

If you’ve come to see slick, clean, urbane and sophisticated clothes for women who need no bells and whistles to feel well dressed ... then you’re at the right place.

One might go so far as to say it’s minimal and possibly even make a comparison to the original Jil Sander if Jil was more constructed and sharper edged. Akris has come a long way from making matronly old lady clothes and receives very little attention for the mastery the designer employs in every collection.

Akris dresses women... real women ... not showgirls, not wanna be hookers and not those who wish the limelight but women with discerning taste who wish to be admired for their wardrobe choices and not pointed at as some kind of fashion freak.

The images speak for themselves and while some might say it’s boring or doesn’t set the world on fire, well, to each   his own. You can keep the Givenchys and Stellas and Loewes and I’ll take Akris ten times over!

Akris fall 2020

Albert Kriemler has become a master of slick, precise, inventive, well designed clothes for women with the most erudite of taste. It takes a great deal of talent and expertise to do what he does and that is render clothes that are thoroughly modern, minimal in their own way but always in the most diverse and creative fabrications.

In a collection  such as this, the discerning eye will take note  that no these are not the clothes that set the world aflame but they are trendy in the most low key way and rendered with surgical precision, the styling is simple, the palette chic and sophisticated and when is  the last time you heard those words applied to a collection and lastly, they have great visual appeal.

There doesn’t need to be any discussion about inspiration and all that crap because the clothes are what they are … beautiful and in some cases exquisite and they speak for themselves. They don’t come cheap but then again, the worst crap we have seen is stratospherically expensive and not nearly as perfectly rendered or conceived.

I tip my hat to the designer who took the helm of a company that was one of the dowdiest collections in its time and transformed it into an urbane soigné grouping of apparel for those with a keen eye on style, proportion and color.

AKRIS spring 2019

To think that was once a line for dowagers is almost inconceivable but alas it once was around 30 years ago or more.

Today it’s all about a spare and sometimes very minimal esthetic with a focus on weightlessness and use of very specific prints, fabrics and a multitude of silhouettes that create slick clothes for all ages. This is no easy task and yet Albert Kriemler makes it look so easy; be aware than I am no ardent fan as there are some seasons I don’t care for it all but when he gets it right it is so right.

I loved the architectural photo prints done on georgette which gives them a totally different feel than if it was a cotton or silk crepe, then there was the use of another pattern printed on different fabrics all used in one ensemble but if there was something negative to be said it was about the pieces that included “the Dali-esque eye”

Kriemler is an art collector and has a penchant for getting into the artsy side of fashion which usually works for him but here it was a bit iffy. No matter, as the collection as a whole is exquisitely made and always precise. For spring, I must say again that the clothes look so light almost weightless and spring certainly is the right season for it especially or suits.

The choice of embellishment is superb and for me it is the small things that make me call the collection modern such a zip from jacket with beading or a bronze leather zip front motocross jacket with printed georgette pants, yes there are a few clunkers in the group but it hardly matters when you look at the grouping in its entirety. Oddly there was no orange which seems to be one of the colors of the season and a color that he has frequently used.

Akris is a collection that has balance and variety and warrants the price that it charges which is not something that can be said of most collections. It is innovative and discreet and yet so very much in fashion while remaining timeless.

Akris PFW spring 2018

There are several or possibly a short list of things that seem odd about Akris this season so let me elucidate and elaborate for you ...

The clothes are wearable, grown up but ageless, they have a sense of humor, they are actually designed and they don’t look like anyone else’s collection and lest I forget they are PRETTY. Imagine how strange and alien to the eye this is!

For one of the rare times during this interminable season, here is a collection that actually looks like it is supposed to and that it belongs on a runway and looks like the  season it is … hard pill to swallow… yes? and add to that there really is no explanation needed unless you want  or need to know the origins of the prints

While so many others are searching for the latest,  the greatest,  the newest and usually a new client every season, Akris garners new clients as well as speaking to their clientele in a language that they understand. Key words here would be flawlessly executed, esthetically beautiful and always something new to explore and offer or in other words Akris gives women a reason to buy these clothes. Imagine that..

You have vacation clothes, country club clothes, travel clothes , resort clothes, chic clothes, fashiony clothes, city clothes and you don’t look like a thrift store reject or like an unmade bed or possibly  some genetic freak of nature. It’s a tough pill to swallow!

I tip my hat to Monsieur/Herr Kriemler and say BRAVO to you !!
