On his sophomore outing for fall 2017, Mr. Shakar proves
himself to be a savvy young designer who has his eye on the ball. Believe it or
not that “ball” is sales and building a customer base which IMHO, he is well on
his way to both impressive sales and an ever growing fan base of women who wear
and lust for beautiful, wearable and timeless clothes that are free of
pervasive trends.

Honestly, I was a bit hesitant after seeing the opening
salvo of black pieces; yes there were some beauties in the grouping BUT the
STARS of the collection came after Shakar ditched the black and went to cream,
white, aquamarine, claret and more. Dresses of exquisite beauty appeared ... imagine
and they didn’t have trains, weren’t of the exaggerated nature nor were they
boring. After years of being in this business, I have found the most difficult
of collection to show is one that that is wearable, salable and not ever
confused with being boring ... a triple threat that Shakar pulls off with great
aplomb.

From djellaba jump suits to daywear to simple jersey draped
dresses, the man has a deft hand and is building his signature which is another
thing that so many designers fail to understand. His intricate seaming, the
ombres, the subtlety of gray against black ... they all co-exist in his
collection. BTW, the daywear has taken a giant step forward this season and
will probably increase proportion in due time. His esthetic may be old school as
seen from a merchants point of view but the clothes are ageless, slick, soigne
and all the things that women want ... after all ... women want to feel beautiful and Oday Shakar can offer that
to them in spades.

By the way, how refreshing to see a show that is not over
styled or tricked out ... the shoes and jewelry are low key and beautiful which
only enhances your overall “picture” of these clothes … I say BRAVO to you ………………
