Having been a huge Versace customer in my day, yes it occurred
to me that there were bits and pieces that recalled and reminisced the heydays
of Gianni … I say that respectfully but in a very loose sense. Unquestionably
there is the element of tailoring that is crucial to the brand DNA as much as
those flashy silk Ratti 80’s medusa prints. What disturbs me the most about the
collection is that there is no element of chic, sophistication or discernment
here. Much of what was shown is rather pedestrian in terms of design and
seemingly forced which was never the case from the dearly departed.

Donatellamamamia tweaks but she rarely tweaks it right for
some reason. The oddly proportioned “emblemmed” jackets with their shorter length
seemed out of place but in my opinion she hit a high note with the shape of the
jeans and pants which featured a fuller
leg offering more softness and a richness that has been absent in the collection
for some time. I can help but bring up that absurd lurex jogging suit (very
Juicy Couture) but then again this whole
urban streetwear thing is getting mighty tired especially at the these prices. ..
and satin cargo pants and silk pajama outfits (very Dolce) !!! Oh and before I forget... Can we talk
about those prissy 7 sisters sweater sets .. I mean … c.’mon ... not even amusing!

It is still rather hard to believe that it has been 20 years
since Gianni left this earth but thankfully at least his brand lives on... just
not with the same respect that it once garnered.
