Bruno
Sialelli certainly had his work cut out for him when he took the reins of this long-suffering
brand but he emerged rather victoriously. Of course, this is the opening salvo
and what remains to be seen is how this designer will evolve with the brand.

The clothes have
a certain slickness to them, they are not trendoidal, a tad Jolie Madame maybe
but definitely wearable and salable for the most part, some beautiful coats, suits,
dresses without all the gimmickry and styling tricks we constantly see on the
runways. I just loved the mini hatbox handbag with the Arpege logo on it. What I
did not love were the either feather necklaces or my first thought was cat fur necklaces…
totally unnecessary flourish.

What boggles
my mind is doesn’t anyone understand or see proportion and that showing some of
these clothes with midcalf flat winter boots just doesn’t work … it just throws
off the whole look to make it appear squatty.

At any rate
there is hope, Lanvin hasn’t had a look since the days of Alber and it would nice
to see a heritage brand come back and have its former glory restored. So now it
is a wait and see proposition, no doubt the media will be lukewarm to it but I certainly
found it worth writing about especially with all the dross that’s out there and all the fawning and out and out
lying about ugly clothes produced by mega brands and even D- list brands.
