Let us digress for a moment and examine the spectacle of
fashion as opposed to fashion itself and while we are at it, let’s talk about
signatures and consistency. All points should be taken into account when one
assesses Dolce & Gabbana. This is not a matter of who likes it what and who
doesn’t but that these 2 men are persistently and insistently faithful to their
brand in the extreme.

For the most part, it would be hard to beat their theatrical
abilities season after season. Their collections are remarkably consistent in
every way including glamourizing their heritage, no matter what, no matter how costumey,
no matter how tricked out, there are always clothes that appeal to their client
base, they are not mining new customers at the expense of who they have already
won over. This quality alone is admirable
given the present climate of fashion. If they nod to trend it is done in a momentary
way and not a pervasive one. In other words they have a signature look …
imagine that! AND they have sense of humor about themselves!

So giving credit where credit is due in this somewhat of a “me
too” mentality that pervades fashion these days, Dolce & Gabbana are to be
applauded for their loyalty to their DNA and all that they adhere to season
after season year after year. They
deserve our respect for these qualities alone and not to solely be judged on
their seasonal offerings that parade down the catwalk.
