After examining scads of collections and looks from scads of designers, most of which shouldn’t
even show, it is odd that I found this heritage brand to be the most interesting
aside from Ralph Lauren ... And why bother reviewing Ralph as the reviews all
read the same... all good all for the same reasons every season.

Here at Daks, Filippo Scuffi took us on a bit of time travel
and yet what it yielded was a cohesive collection that looked polished, designed, modern
and retro, well executed and even dare I say … appealing in the fact that one
can easily see real people wearing these clothes and not looking like they are
dressed for Halloween.

Despite the brand’s 125 year history, this is a brand that
has been through changes both evolutionary and revolutionary. Once spoken in
the same breath as Burberry (both known for their plaids and raincoats), Daks
faded from sight for decades and has been striving to reinvent itself on an
international stage as a viable brand for real actual clients both at retail
and wholesale.

This collection has swagger, chic, a slickness and a lot to
say by digging back into time when the current crop of designers believe they
are reinventing the wheel with hoodies, bomber jackets, sweat pants, tee shirts
and oversized everything. It is possible that the collection jarred memories of
what times were like decades ago when men’s fashion was truly in bloom and designers
were offering possibilities and not edicts or offering deep intellectual and philosophical
insights as to what prompted each farcical collection. Even the women’s clothes have something to
offer such as they exude a certain kind
of chic accompanied by a reality that seems to have disappeared from most catwalks,
whether men’s or women’s.

So while the media elite will rave about the Pradas and Guccis
and Vetements of fashion, I just say you need to have a look at this and think
real... real people... real clothes and you don have to look like a fool or be
20 to wear them.

PS... The styling was a bit too over the top with the excess
of hats especially the HUGE ones albeit in certain exits the drama was pumped
up with their wearing.
