Andrew Gn spring 2020

So this is what a well-conceived, well thought out and meticulously rendered collection  looks like; Gn is a master of dressmaking whether in strict silhouette or in flou. He is also an incredible proponent of embroidery and embellishment. My only issues with this collection were how it was styled and that below the knee length, both of which are easily remedied once in store.

Unquestionably these are rich lady clothes that look like what they are. He is not stuck on a shape or a fabrication or a theme unless you consider exquisitely made clothes to be a theme. His name is not on the tip of everyone’s tongue but he is a true modern master of fashion. In a fleeting tangential moment I thought “OMG what he could do at Dior!”

This is not a collection that will be universally liked or accepted since it leans more to the conservative side of fashion and yet the clothes will take on the age of the wearer. Marinate on thois thought for  minute  and compare this in the spirit of how you  view Celine which will grab  accolades. He is why savvy buyers come to Paris to find clothes that no one else dares make… elegant, tasteful, refined and soigné.

In many ways he is a throwback to the glory days or YSL, Ungaro and Givenchy and yet he remains modern in his oeuvre without “trendizing” the collection. I watch his collections season and after season and he can be a bit erratic but I always marvel at the perfection of the make.
