“I tried to take the most modern approach possible with everything,” said Clare Waight Keller following her third haute couture collection for Givenchy. Most modern, that is, relative to the maison’s heritage.

So sticking with that thought in mind, was it fetishistic aspect, the massage portable massage table sized bow strapped to a models Back, the almost tribal medicine man fringed pieces or the waist deep u-line necklines? Huh? Which was it that screamed Givenchy?

I don’t think she was speaking of the same collection that is shown here as here we have clothes that look like they came from a communal design atelier under the Place Vendôme and pieces were just thrown together until the designer said okay that enough. I don’t care how meticulous the workmanship is or the press release bullshit that accompanies these collections, I care about what the clothes look like and they look strange and cheap and been there done that and lack every bit of soigné and elegance that the maison and designer were once known for.
