Here’s the deal: I really liked it but I could have really loved it! To my eye, the styling was a bit off in certain places as were the oversized jackets and coats; had the tailored pieces been closer to the body/leaner, I think they would not have lost their modernity in that this was a rare collection when you actually knew you were looking at fall.

Yes, there were some bloopers as you will see in the images but given the size of the collection, there is enough to sink your teeth into without them. Most of these oopsies were in daytime knits which just seem not quite right whether in proportion or design; what I did love that Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia have managed to retain the flavor of Oscar as well as his delicate and cha cha sides. Had the models all been slicked out in heels rather than flats and with proper hair and makeup, I believe the takeaway would have been totally different.

Oscar was all about slick and soigné and lady like without being matronly and I feel they move in this direction except for a small grouping of prints which I found not in keeping with the spirit of the collection and in some cases looked cheap. But again, there is so much to choose from that you still wind up with more pieces than most designers show as entire collections before you even do the edit.

As you can see, it is not impossible to reimagine a heritage brand without obliterating its past and original DNA and for that alone Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia should be commended and lauded.
