It’s time to do some quickies! These are collections that
certainly warrant some attention from but to be honest I don’t have it in me to
do full reviews of each as this week has really tarnished my opinion about
NYFW.
Norma Kamali
Like it or not the woman delivers! Clothes that actually
look like fun and clothes that women might actually wear. She consistently demonstrates
that there is something to be said about longevity and staying relevant without
looking like a fool whether as a designer or a consumer. How many designers can
lay claim to those qualities? Tipping my hat!

Admittedly, this is my first viewing of the collection and
it was a very pleasant surprise. Yes, the collection swings from high drama (borderline
drag queen) to mothers of the bride to 40s glam to sex goddesses. No matter,
the clothes were beautifully rendered and offered a very particular point of
view. Due its scope, there are undoubtedly clothes that will sell and then some
which will be editorialized. Honestly,
it was refreshing to see a collection that stood for something and offered a
designer's signature and not a “me too” point of view.

There is not much to say here other than this is a collection
that celebrates the art and craft of fashion. This is a collection that is
designed, conceived and rendered in the most impeccable of ways. No, this is
not a universal kind of fashion but it is fashion taken to the limit. This
collection seems to be a bit more commercial than in the past but without losing any of
its DNA or panache. IMHO this ranks with Thom Browne when it comes to construction
and finished product.

P.S. there will
be no Marc Jacobs review as quite honestly I have no idea what to say! His
collections have almost consistently evaded me despite the overwhelming
plaudits that they receive.
