Well, what fun!! The best part of what Jeremy Scott does with Moschino is that he finds his theme and he just digs in ... no holds barred. There is no pretension here no blah blah blah just fun commercial clothes and accessories for women who know no better or still have a sense of humor when it comes to fashion. It must be said that kudos to him for having a sense of humor and not thinking he will reinvent thread every season.

So it is all about road construction and car washes and god knows what else but it is colorful, show worthy, commercial with a lot of wearable clothes for a lot of women but what upsets me more than anything is that Scott mines the Moschino archives and pushes the envelope when it comes to the brand’s DNA so then why is it that few if any so called critics ever mention Franco Moschino for it is his wildest imaginings that make collections like this possible. Don’t let me forget the hint of Mugler! Scott uses every sight gag, joke and fashion pun that he can and what he winds up with is a circus of sorts ... let’s say it is a fashion circus that delights fashionphiles the same way dancing elephants delight kids at Barnum and Bailey.

Standout pieces were of course the Chanelesque suits, the car wash pieces and even the “dusters” but the best was a very “new look” trench dress which would be suitable for any runway in any fashion capital. It was sort of an odd man out piece but a great palate cleanser in between the cacophony of colors, themed styles and patterns.

My takeaway is that there are too many of these young designers who take themselves far too seriously and try far too hard to put their stamp on a brand. Think Lagerfeld and Chanel and no more information or examples are needed!
