Giorgio Armani Spring 2016 MFW

Can you see me giving Giorgio Armani standing ovation? BRAVO! Proving that if you wait long enough you get to see fashion at its zenith. Yes, of course some will say the collection is old fashioned and yawn worthy but those who are astute enough will understand and see that this is Armani embracing trends on his terms! The terms being, that he designs clothes for women of discerning taste and for those who eschew the antics of “the new kids on the block!”

Leathers, check  ... transparency, check ...  softness, check … relaxed silhouettes, check … pussycat bows, check ... shorts, check … paper bag or gathered waists, check and much more. The overall effect is softness and roundness even in the shoulder lines of the tailored jackets. The effects achieved in leather are sublime and of course subtle, the mood is less formal given the absence of any great amount of gowns, there is a youth to the collection without looking like he has abandoned his DNA. If anything he has broadened his vision as well as his vocabulary and again… he has not broken or tossed aside the DNA that made him famous and revered. As has been said before about so few collections ... the clothes appear to be almost weightless!

As has been written here before, Armani is about nuance and massaging what he stands for season after season. There is no mistaking his signatures and he has no need of chasing new clients season after season and yet he attracts them. Few will understand that he has taken the tried and true Spring color combination of red, white and blue and made it so modern and appealing. While his so called “colleagues” are chasing editorials and editors, Mr. Armani is leading the pack with his allegiance to himself and to fashion.

These clothes need no blah blah blah, no esoteric or arcane bull to accompany the presentation; these clothes send a very clear message to the ones smart enough and knowledgeable enough to read that message!
