Ralph Lauren Spring 2016 NYFW

Why and how can it be that this man, this designer and his eponymous collection barely skips a beat season after season and every season he nails it. No this is not about trend or any kind of superfluous crap that we see, read or hear during these droning days of fashion weeks.

This is a collection designed to be worn by women of all ages with whatever their particular tastes as long as they are not of the fashion victim school or of the Trendoid School of fashion. Every season there are more reasons to want to these clothes. Yes it is 1001 ways to use a white shirt but there are more wearable salable clothes in these 50 exits than in any 20 shows seen thus far during the past week.

Lauren sticks to that old “garmento, 7th Avenue” thing of Spring means red, white and blue but it is so NOT tired or hackneyed. There is always another take, another flourish, another print and just another something that his clients will have to have no matter what. Yes, loved the print, the ticking stripe evening wear, the stark almost spectator contrasts of the reddest red against the blinding white. It is all clean and simple and requires no explanation. These are clothes that will be seen all over the world.

By the way, if you need to know what chic means, it’s here! If you want to know how to make leather look right for spring, it’s here! There is so much to be gained by truly seeing what is presented. It is just too bad that so many designers think they have to reinvent the wheel and still they come out short! Take a lesson in staying relevant ... he is a master at it.

If you want to say that Ralph Lauren is a formulaic collection, then go right ahead, but there is a reason that these clothes sell season after season and year after year. I tip my hat and cheer!
