Lemaire/ Walter Van Beirendonck men's SPRING 2017

Now that I have everyone shaking their heads and hopefully I have your attention. Let’s begin:
I can’t think of 2 more polar opposites when it comes to what each brand represents when it comes to menswear. WVB is a fantasist. CL is a purist and minimalist. One is less is more and the other, more is better. They are the yin and yang when it comes to their unique visions. Think of Lemaire as the music that accompanies mediation while WVB might be heavy metal!

What they share are qualities that should be apparent to the seasoned fashionphile but in more cases than not, a little explanation is needed. They obviously see menswear from opposite sides of the fence BUT what they have in common is the exquisite craft of fashion which is celebrated and honored by their oeuvre. Both men offer clothes of the highest caliber when it comes to finish and workmanship. Their tastes are as individual and as disparate as they can be but jeeeez … look at the quality. Top stitching and seaming that is straighter than a razor’s edge; the edges of WVB’s tulle embroidered pieces are nothing short of couture quality. These seemingly simple aspects of fashion are far too often overlooked especially by the so called fashion authorities as they are more concerned with venue, vomiting out a designer’s press release and who sat where. Ya think it could be that they can’t see it?
WVB is has the skill set of a couturier and the mindset of the maddest of scientists. Lemaire the micro surgeon who has the laser focus that yields clothes as meticulous and immaculate as any operating room in  any hospital. They share that skill of delivering impeccably well-made apparel for a very select few who can appreciate clothes beyond trend and afford the tariff… so to speak.

This review is not of the Instagram variety when you look, click and move on... This one you MUST read to find out how these 2 rather outstanding designers have the same end game. If you examine WVB collection you can see the most wonderful pants and some incredible pieces aimed at the collector of fashion and not of the fashion fawner while Lemaire offers clothes for those who insist on only perfection and understatement.

PS. The perfect navy jumpsuit from WVB or maybe the laser tailored grey parachute strap suit or the white flap closure suit? Lemaire’s shirts or top stitched pieces are without equal? The saffron zip front jacket or the ecru ¾ sleeved shadow windowpane shirt from Lemaire?
