Oscar de la Renta Spring 2013 New York Collections
I
f it’s spring then there must be broderie anglaise (not doily lace), red white & blue, off white and white and brights and pastels alike. For those of us who have a resume longer than this 21st century, these would be the elements that show up in Spring collections such as Oscar de la Renta. While these ingredients are decidedly old school, the clothes are very much modern and of the moment.
Mr. de la Renta gave all of it to his audience, meaning that eh hardly skipped a beat from all the OdlR signatures to adding the use of latex and astrakhan for a spring collection … I call it hubris and he can do it , just because he earned the right! We got see Oscar as Oscar, Oscar as McQueen, Oscar as Balenciaga, Oscar as Blass and yet none of it looks borrowed as it all fits so perfectly into the landscape of this collection.
The palette was the entire spectrum yet cohesive, the shapes were of all that can be conceived and the lengths from short short to ankle. There are not many who pull this off successfully but there is an attitude of great self-assurance and confidence that allows this designer to do as he pleases. Not only does Mr. de la Renta have the design chops to create a collection like this but he has his extremely capable son in law, Alex Bolen, to handle the business part with equal ability and ease.
Words, at this point are superfluous and there is more to be said by viewing the collection in its entirety, so I will not waste your time extolling the virtues of this collection, but I urge you to watch the show and see how “it’ is done!

P.S. ..how embarrassing for Style.com to have a reviewer use the term “doily lace”
