There is not a single designer in the world that can beat a
theme to death like Ralph Lauren … and I mean that in the most complimentary
way. Mr. Lauren and his team have a way
of using every bit of iconography, no matter how small, that is associated with
the theme of the season and exploiting it endlessly … and I mean that in the
most complimentary way!
For Spring 2013 we are south of the border or to Spain
(depending on how literal you want the translation) and not a single flourish is overlooked from serapes, flamenco, bull fights, matadors, fringe, hats,
embellishments, flowers, ruffles, gauchos and neckerchiefs and those are just from
memory. It is over the top brilliant
that the theme is used to drive the point across that these clothes are
brilliantly conceived to fit almost any theme with minor adjustments which
might be the length of a jacket, the shape of a hat or the pattern of a fabric.
The collection is infinitely wearable, infinitely Ralph and
when taken out of context of the theme, they are as timeless as a white
shirt! I will be forever slack jawed at
the talent for accomplishing this herculean feat of producing timeless clothes
season after season. Ole RALPHICITO!
P.S. if a picture is worth 1000 words ... the slideshow will provide you with about 30, 000
more!
