Ciao Milano! We are chugging along here and have landed in
Milan for the next round of the fashion rodeo for Spring 2013.
For starters, we have Gucci by Frida Giannini and we have a
winner for this season. Someone, somehow
must have whispered or possibly decreed that it was getting really close to the time to deliver a collection
that stood on its own without all the blah blah blah which so often accompanies
this collection. My take is that either
there is a new design studio or the winds of change are blowing at the house of
Gucci.
The long and the short of it is very simply … yes she can
deliver a commercial and yet fashionable and beautiful collection, albeit a bit
short of real daytime clothes.
Nevertheless, it is colorful and feminine and wearable with some nods to
the favored decades of the 60’s and 70’s.
The clothes are long on ruffles and ease and not over complicated or overworked
shapes. There is shoulder and sleeve emphasis
and one can see that the costumes of the past are out and the clothes that make
registers ring are in!
The palette is bright fresh and not harsh, the accessories and
embellishments are beautiful and complement the clothes rather than over
power. If there is something to bitch
about, then of course I can use some of the sleeve treatments as a bit of “de
trop.” And since we are on the debit
side of the collection, let’s talk about the clumsy tailored looks and the odd
addition of the painted pythons which looked like an afterthought.
This is a collection that will certainly resonate with the
Gucci gals that have been wanting beautiful clothes to wear next Spring and
Summer while on their vacations in Sardinia, Capri or Cap Ferrat.
