I think a pig just flew by my window!!! Mr. Cavalli offered up a much more refined
version of his eponymous brand this season and by that I just mean it is not a
screaming riot of colors and patterns.
The collection is softly rendering but with all the Cavalli bells and
whistles albeit no leopard that I can see.
Yes, the collection is embellished to a fare thee well but
then again, what else would one expect here? What I found so appealing is the
softness of color and the somewhat ethereal quality despite the beading and
accessories. The 20’s influence is here
and the easier more relaxed shapes of the clothes make them even more
appealing. From the tasseled bag to
elongated necklaces to the chemises and “flapperesque” shapes, this is Cavalli
at his most refined and luxurious. I am
sure the fassholes will hate it!
Spring must have signaled a greater usage of python as Mr. Cavalli
uses it generously. It is interesting it
has turned up in various preceding collections, most notably in Ralph Rucci’s
far more unadorned collection.
Collections like this open the door for a designer to meet a
new client, as long as they can, of course, afford the candy it he candy
store! The one thing that hasn’t changed
is that the Cavalli woman is not shy and she has to be some sort of good shape
to wear these frocks but this season he is more forgiving in his propensity for
body skimming rather than second skin.
